EXPRESSION LINES – BTOX

The lines of expression are not always associated with aging; Many times they are present in young people who have strong muscles of expression and gesticulate notoriously. Botox® treatment is still the best and easiest way to say goodbye to these annoying lines.

WHAT BRANDS DO WE USE?

At the Felipe Amaya Institute, we only use the Botox® brand of Allergan®, which is the laboratory that discovered the molecule and which is a leader in the market, investing a lot of effort in research.

WHY IS THERE ANY FEAR OF BOTOX®?

This treatment has mistakenly been confused with the use of biopolymers that deform the face, giving an infiltrated and swollen appearance, but Botox® DOES NOT add volume to the face, it only eliminates fine lines with a natural appearance.

HOW DO WE DO THAT THERE IS NEARLY NO PAIN?

The application is made in the office, in just 10 minutes, with microneedles that are very small needles, which generate very little pain. In the institute we have a technology called “Vibrato” that helps to minimize this discomfort.

WHICH ARE THE MOST COMMON AREAS WE TREAT?

The most common areas that we work with are the “chicken feet”, the eyebrows and the forehead, although in specific cases we use it in the wrinkles of the nose and neck.

Frequently we apply a point to raise the eyebrow, achieving a natural curve of the eyebrow tail, avoiding the “pointed” aspect that gives an artificial appearance.

CARES AFTER THE TREATMENT?

After the application there are only a few small bulges that disappear after 10 minutes.

Do not perform massage
Do not apply cold or heat
Avoid exercise
Avoid alcohol
Avoid activities such as Turkish or saunas
Do not lie down in the next three hours to the application.

TREATMENT LASTING

The result is not definitive and only lasts for 6 months. The first 4 months the effect is absolute, but in the following two months the wrinkles begin to appear progressively until until the sixth month, all the lines of expression have reappeared in their entirety.

WHAT CONSEQUENCES DOES BOTOX HAVE?

The frequent use of Botox® has no impact on health or on the appearance of the face. The expression does not change, nor do the tissues slip away, as it has erroneously become popular. Once the effect is gone everything is the same again, there will be no more, no less wrinkles than before the treatment.

HOW MUCH BOTOX® SHOULD BE INJECTED?

Depends on the areas we are going to treat. One ampoule of Botox ® has 100 Units that correspond to the dose to treat the two full face patients.

It is essential to put the full dose of each area, to avoid a short or incomplete duration of the effect. The distribution is usually as follows:

Chicken legs: 20 units (including eyebrow lift)
Front: 15 units
Frown: 15 units

WHAT COMPLICATIONS CAN EXIST?

Botox ® is a very safe product with a long research. The complications with its use are minimal. Informal magazines have been responsible for spreading false news, which has affected their prestige. The appearance of Alzheimer’s, the runoff of tissues after application and the face is inflated or deformed are LIES.

The real complications of Botox® are the drooping of one of the eyelids and the double vision due to a bad application, very close to the muscles of the eyelids and eyes. Although these complications are very uncomfortable, fortunately they are transient and usually only take two weeks, with proper management.

Other complications are the asymmetries and the pointed aspect of the eyebrows that depend totally on the experience of the specialist, as well as the short duration of the effect that generally is to apply less recognized marks or to use low doses of the product.

A rare situation is resistance to the Botox molecule that occurs in a few patients, occasionally related to the application of low doses, which function as a vaccine in which the body learns to destroy the Botox® molecule by antibodies, causing the effect to be mild or of very short duration. For these cases it is recommended to try a change in the brand of the product, so that the body does not recognize the new molecule.

OTHER USES OF BOTOX

HYPERHIDROSIS (EXCESSIVE SWEAT) OF AXILLS AND HANDS

Sweat apocrine glands are highly sensitive to Botox®. At the Institute we have extensive experience in the application of Botox® in hands and underarms to control excessive sweating of these areas.

The application requires high doses of the product and is somewhat uncomfortable. When we perform it on our hands, we prefer to do it under anesthesia or sedation, due to the sensitivity of this area.

The results are not definitive and only last for approximately 6 months, but they are a good option for many patients.

When looking for definitive results we refer our patients for a transthoracic sympathectomy.

GROOVES

Once, furrows or ditches have formed on the face, the best non-surgical alternative to correct them is the use of hyaluronic acid.

The product we use is Juvederm®, with its two Volbella® and Volift® variants, from the Allergan® laboratory, the same manufacturer of Botox®, which has the advantage of staying up to two years in the tissues.

WHAT DO WE IMPROVE?

With these products we improve the furrows between the nose and the mouth, between the eyebrows, we eliminate wrinkles of the forehead, the eyelids, and the mouth, as well as the uncomfortable marionette furrows.
